Job Description: Reference Librarian

Position: Reference Librarian

Job Summary:
The Reference Librarian is responsible for providing exceptional reference and research services to library patrons. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of library resources, strong customer service skills, and the ability to assist users in navigating various information sources. The Reference Librarian is expected to stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in library and information science, as well as possess excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities:
1. Provide expert reference and research assistance to library patrons, both in-person and virtually.
2. Assist users in locating and utilizing library resources, including books, databases, journals, and other multimedia materials.
3. Teach library patrons how to effectively use research tools, reference materials, and online databases.
4. Conduct in-depth reference interviews to identify and comprehend users' information needs.
5. Evaluate and select relevant print and electronic resources to meet patrons' information requirements.
6. Develop and conduct informative library orientation sessions and workshops.
7. Collaborate with other librarians and library staff to enhance the overall user experience and improve library services.
8. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in library and information science to provide innovative reference services.
9. Assist in maintaining an organized and up-to-date collection of reference materials.
10. Participate in collection development activities by recommending new resources based on users' needs and changing information landscape.
11. Contribute to the creation and maintenance of user-friendly research guides, bibliographies, and other reference materials.
12. Participate in professional development activities, including attending conferences, workshops, and training sessions.
13. Assist in creating and implementing library policies and procedures related to reference services.
14. Collaborate with faculty to support information literacy instruction programs and initiatives.
15. Provide support for interlibrary loan services and assist patrons in accessing resources from other libraries.

Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of reference and research techniques, including familiarity with various information sources and research methodologies.
3. Strong understanding of library systems, databases, and electronic resources.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of library patrons and staff.
5. Proficient in the use of technology and library-related software applications.
6. Ability to teach and instruct users in the effective use of library resources and research methodologies.
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
8. Ability to adapt to changing technologies and evolving user needs.
